Deborah Hansen, associate director of choral activities and chair of the music department, will direct the Whitworth Women's Choir. The Whitworth Choir and Whitworth Chamber Singers will perform under the direction of Marc A. Musical selections will include Healey Willan’s reverent “Behold, the Tabernacle of God” Gyorgy Orban’s “Kyrie and Gloria,” for women’s voices and piano Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s setting of “Hodie Christus natus est,” for men’s chorus and Hugo Distler’s “Lo! How a Rose E’er Blooming.” Mass choir selections will include Scott Hafso’s joyful “Eja,” which was last heard in the 2005 Christmas Festival Concerts and David Willcock’s majestic setting of “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” The Festival Concerts will be centered around Italian composer Ottorino Respighi’s masterpiece “Laud to the Nativity,” performed by the Whitworth Choir and student instrumentalists, with solos by Whitworth Lecturer (Voice) Amy Porter alumna Kyrsten Hafso, ’07 and Director of Voice Studies and the Whitworth Men’s Chorus Scott Miller. Presented without interruption, the concert will be concluded by candlelight. ![]() The concert theme, “Laud to the Nativity,” will be elevated through choral works, readings from the Old and New Testaments, and traditional carols for audience and choirs.
